Job Title: Assistant Attorney General I-II
Job Responsibilities:
- Initiate and conduct investigations related to Healthcare Program Enforcement.
- Analyze factual and legal issues and develop evidence for Healthcare Program Enforcement cases.
- Perform legal research, conduct interviews, and direct investigator activity.
- Review data and documentation from client agencies and other resources.
- Coordinate with federal and state governments to evaluate and potentially resolve pending whistleblower lawsuits.
- Report findings and analysis to management and Executive Administration.
- Monitor pending cases in which the State has declined to intervene.
- Prepare legal briefs independently and in coordination with other Assistant Attorneys General to protect the State’s interests.
- Prepare pleadings and other legal documents and negotiate settlement documents.
- Assist with bill review and legislative inquiries as needed.
- Represent the **Members Only** before state or federal district courts.
- Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Attorney General I:
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (.).
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas.
- Must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligible to practice law in Texas by start date.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Sound judgment and effective decision-making ability.
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Cooperative work ability in a professional office environment.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to work in person at assigned work location and perform all assigned tasks at the designated workspace.
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel, including overnight travel, up to 20%.
Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Attorney General II:
- All the qualifications for Assistant Attorney General I.
- One year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on complex civil litigation in both state and federal courts.
- Experience with legal review software such as Summation, Concordance, Relativity, or Clearwell.
- Conducting legal analysis involving complex statutory and regulatory schemes at state and federal levels.
- Knowledge of civil healthcare fraud statutes and relevant legal principles and practices.
- Familiarity with Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, Texas Rules of Evidence, Federal Rules of Procedure, and Federal Rules of Evidence.
- Familiarity with Texas and Federal case law regarding discovery and pleading.
Salary Information:
- Monthly salary range: $6, - $7,.
- Overtime status: Exempt.
