A boutique law firm in Minneapolis is seeking a motivated and experienced Associate Attorney to handle a caseload focused on criminal defense and child protection matters. This role offers the opportunity to represent clients across various stages of litigation in both state and federal court, while collaborating with a dynamic legal team in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality legal advocacy.

Location:

  • Minneapolis, Minnesota

Duties:

  • Represent clients in felony and misdemeanor matters across Minnesota, including juvenile cases, child protection, and federal criminal litigation

  • Attend and argue court hearings, including motions, mediations, and settlement conferences

  • Draft motions, legal memoranda, discovery requests, and other court filings

  • Conduct legal research and factual investigations

  • Interview witnesses and prepare for trial or hearing presentations

  • Maintain organized case files and manage legal documentation

  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and internal teams

  • Manage individual caseload calendar, appointments, and deadlines

  • Assist in appeals, orders for protection (OFPs), harassment restraining orders (HROs), fair hearings, and licensing matters

  • Negotiate case settlements and plea agreements

Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of experience practicing criminal defense or related litigation

  • Ability to manage a high caseload independently while maintaining attention to detail

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Commitment to the firm’s values of professionalism, preparation, and proactive representation

  • High level of comfort in both courtroom and client-facing environments

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and in good standing

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Strong verbal advocacy and interpersonal communication

  • Knowledge of Minnesota criminal and family law procedures

  • Proficient in legal document drafting and trial preparation

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
