Job Title: SVP, Associate General Counsel, Chief Privacy Officer
Job Responsibilities:
The Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) and Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel at the company is a pivotal leadership role within the legal department, tasked with managing a team of privacy attorneys and professionals. The CPO is responsible for a comprehensive range of duties, including:
- Leading a team of privacy experts to address substantive legal issues and contributing to their professional development.
- Influencing strategy with executive stakeholders as a member of various risk committees and executive leadership for projects.
- Staying updated with relevant privacy laws and regulations, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Regulation S-P, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other industry-specific regulations. Familiarity with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Developing and maintaining privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines that comply with legal requirements and industry standards, and educating employees to foster a culture of privacy awareness and compliance.
- Creating and delivering privacy training programs to educate employees on data protection and privacy responsibilities, raising awareness of privacy-related risks and best practices.
- Enhancing procedures for handling and responding to privacy incidents in coordination with relevant stakeholders, including Cybersecurity, Technology, Regulatory Affairs, and Corporate Communications teams, ensuring timely and appropriate incident responses.
- Advising and overseeing the company's response to data subject rights, collaborating with Technology and Data Governance teams to establish efficient processes for handling and documenting such rights.
- Drafting and negotiating provisions for a wide variety of commercial and technology contracts, collaborating with the Commercial Contracts team to establish privacy and data protection standards, and managing escalations where necessary.
- Acting as the primary contact for privacy-related inquiries from regulatory authorities, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Serving as the legal leader for Artificial Intelligence (AI) matters, participating in the AI Governance Committee, and leading a group of legal experts in support of various AI initiatives while staying informed on legal, regulatory, and technological developments related to AI.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the CPO role must possess:
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a nationally accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law and good standing in at least one . jurisdiction.
- Over 15 years of experience in counseling on privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations within the financial services industry, preferably in environments involving broker-dealers or registered investment advisors.
- Experience working at a law firm or within the financial services industry.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence others without direct authority.
- Good interpersonal skills for interacting with senior management, adaptability, and a willingness to take on new tasks.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $207,075 to $345,125 per year. The actual base salary is determined by various factors, including relevant skills, prior experience, education, the base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
