Job Responsibilities:
The Attorney in the Children’s Legal Services department within the **Members Only** is responsible for advocating for the safety, well-being, and permanency of abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Florida. The attorney will handle multiple cases, ensuring that both Florida and federal legal requirements are met to secure permanent and safe homes for dependent children. Responsibilities include collaborating with investigators and case managers to gather necessary evidence for legal actions suitable for each child, preparing these partners to serve as witnesses at trial, and employing best practice litigation techniques to ensure effective pleadings and trial presentations. The attorney will be a leader in the courtroom at each stage of a Chapter 39 proceeding.
Education and Experience Information:
- A law degree is required for this position.
- Training is provided through a multi-week onboarding program by a CLS-dedicated Statewide Training Team.
- Quarterly intensive multi-day New Attorney Training focusing on practical skills and litigation tactics is part of the training regimen.
- An Annual multi-day Advanced Litigation Academy is available, which coaches new and experienced attorneys on high-level evidence techniques, expert witness challenges, and advocacy through technology.
- Fulfillment of all Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements is provided through webinars and live trainings on various legal topics.
Salary Information:
- The annual base salary for a full-time permanent appointment is $55,000.
- Total compensation, inclusive of benefits, is valued at a minimum of $77,947. Actual total compensation will vary based on insurance and retirement elections.
