Job Title: Assistant Attorney General I
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings related to child support, including locating, establishing, enforcing, modifying, or terminating court orders for child and medical support.
- Represent the State of Texas in administrative hearings.
- Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program.
- Develop and deliver training related to child support legal matters.
- Perform related work as assigned by the organization.
- Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions effectively.
- Attend work regularly in compliance with the agreed-upon work schedule.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Education and Experience Information:
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree is required.
- Must be licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, eligible to practice law in Texas by the start date.
- Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code is necessary.
- Skills required include legal writing, mediation, negotiation, serving as a trial lawyer, preparing sound opinions, conducting investigations, and performing legal research.
- Must have skills in using a personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines is essential.
- Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and effective decision-making.
- Must be able to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment.
- Must provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to work in person at the assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at the designated OAG workspace, and engage in in-person work with coworkers.
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in handling Family Law cases.
- Jury trial experience.
- Experience in handling a high-volume legal practice.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish is preferred.
Salary Information:
- The salary for this position is $6, per month.
