Job Title: Tax Managing Director, Core Tax Services - ASC 740
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Managing Director plays a crucial role in guiding clients through the complexities of tax implications related to their business operations. The position involves evaluating and selecting actions to reduce tax burdens and compliance costs, identifying various methods to comply with tax regulations, and acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. Key responsibilities include:
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Ensure the compliance of self and client service teams with company policies, standards, and the Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
- Manage engagements to achieve management metrics and ensure hands-on client service delivery.
- Encourage team adherence to TQM policies, including engagement letters and documentation.
Research:
- Identify when research is needed and frame issues clearly and concisely for research purposes.
- Identify complex issues for the engagement team to research and provide research methodology for efficient processes.
- Serve as a technical reviewer for Written Tax Advice (WTA) in areas of expertise.
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals:
- Apply company policies, standards, and the TQM regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Apply technical expertise on income tax provisions related to international tax, valuation allowance credits, business combinations, and stock-based compensation.
- Efficiently review and apply income tax provisions.
Tax Consulting:
- Assist in developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes.
- Use expert knowledge to combine tax knowledge with business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions and maximize results.
- Apply general knowledge of multiple tax specialties for issue identification and resolution.
Tax Specialization:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in various areas of taxation, including individual, corporate, property, sales, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, and R&D tax benefits.
- Use expertise to advise clients on tax implications and recommend alternative actions and compliance methods.
Strategy Development:
- Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to improve client positions, reduce taxes or expenses, or provide non-tax benefits.
- Present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise associates, senior associates, and managers as necessary.
- Review work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide feedback.
- Act as a Career Advisor to associates, senior associates, and managers.
- Manage workload scheduling for associates, senior associates, and managers.
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback to team members.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of ten years of relevant tax experience and/or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services is required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties is preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience is required.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) is required.
- Other relevant professional degrees or certifications are preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.
