Job Title: Senior Staff or Staff Attorney, Democracy: Voting Rights Litigation Team

Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Staff or Staff Attorney for the Democracy: Voting Rights Litigation Team will be responsible for litigating cases in state and federal courts primarily across the five focus states of the organization. Key responsibilities include:

- Working and co-counseling with private attorneys.
- Conducting extensive legal research and factual investigations.
- Writing motions, briefs, and other court filings.
- Conducting discovery, appearing in court, and delivering oral arguments.
- Leading advocacy and litigation efforts, including drafting memorandums and complaints.
- Identifying and developing new cases and litigation strategies to advance voting rights.
- Collaborating with community groups, coalitions, and individuals to promote voting rights.
- Mentoring and training legal staff and interns (for Senior Staff Attorneys).
- Participating in relevant task forces and coalitions.
- Collaborating across departments within the organization to implement impact area goals.
- Representing the Democracy: Voting Rights Litigation Team on relevant task forces and coalitions.
- Engaging in public speaking and articulating the organization's policies and programs on voting rights issues.
- Performing other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the job classification.
- Upholding Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles by seeking diverse collaborators and partners.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum qualifications for the role include:

- A . degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing of at least one state bar in the United States, preferably in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, or Washington, .
- For Staff Attorney I-II: At least one (1) year of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post-law school.
- For Senior Staff Attorney I-IV: At least six (6) years of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post-law school.

Salary Information:
The position is an exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $73, annually. Salary is based on legal experience post law school:

- Staff Attorney I (1-3 years out of law school): $73,.
- Staff Attorney II (4-5 years out of law school): $84,.
- Senior Staff Attorney I (6 & 7 years out of law school): $97,.
- Senior Staff Attorney II (8 & 9 years out of law school): $112,.
- Senior Staff Attorney III (10 & 11 years out of law school): $129,.
- Senior Staff Attorney IV (12+ years out of law school): $148,.

Where & How You'll Work:
The role offers the following work designations:

- Local Remote: Work remotely but expected to attend work-related activities at the organization's offices or in the states where the organization operates.
- Telework: Work at an organization's office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.
- The position reports to a Senior Supervising Attorney, Democracy: Voting Rights.

Other Special Considerations:
- The job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
- The position is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
