The City of New York's Department of Social Services is seeking a full-time Attorney Interne to join the Office of Legal Affairs in the Child Support Enforcement Term (CSET). The Attorney Interne will work towards establishing paternity and child support orders in the family court, representing the interests of the Commissioner of the Department of Social Services in NYS Family Court litigation. The salary range for this position is $70, – $70, and no exam is required for application.
Responsibilities of the Attorney Interne include appearing in hearings and trials, seeking penalties for violation of support petitions, and providing legal counsel and review for negotiated settlements on outstanding arrears. The Attorney Interne will also perform legal research, draft legal documents, and maintain case files. This position requires travel and may involve re-assignment to other boroughs within New York City.
Minimum qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited United States law school or admission to the New York State Bar. Preferred skills include prior litigation experience, strong oral and written advocacy skills, and knowledge of child support or family law. The City of New York offers public service loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs for eligible employees.
