Job Title: Assistant Attorney General I-II

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Consumer Protection Division of the **Members Only** (OAG) is responsible for a variety of legal tasks aimed at protecting consumers and the legitimate business community in Texas. Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing complex factual and legal issues.
- Developing evidence through witness interviews, undercover operations, examinations under oath, depositions, requests to examine, civil investigative demands, and other discovery methods.
- Representing the **Members Only** and other state agencies in state and federal district and appellate courts in charitable trust and civil enforcement cases.
- Preparing legal opinions, memoranda, briefs, pleadings, motions, petitions, and other legal documents.
- Participating in administrative and evidentiary hearings and the discovery process.
- Conducting legal research and reporting findings and conclusions.
- Maintaining knowledge of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and related statutes.
- Managing a caseload of litigation cases and investigations, maintaining confidentiality, and communicating effectively with state agency representatives and consumers.
- Performing related work as assigned and ensuring compliance with agency policies and procedures, including those related to ethics and integrity.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum qualifications for the position of Assistant Attorney General I include:
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (.).
- Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas.
- Membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligibility to practice law in Texas by the start date.
- Skills in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, meeting deadlines, legal research, writing, analysis, conducting investigations, mediation, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Ability to prepare legal documents, conduct research, interpret and apply laws, summarize findings, prepare cases for trial, conduct hearings, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to handle stressful situations, receive and respond positively to feedback, and work cooperatively in a professional office environment.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work in person at the assigned OAG work location.

For the Assistant Attorney General II position, in addition to the above qualifications, candidates must have:
- One year of full-time experience in fields such as corporation law, nonprofit law, charitable trusts, probate, estate and trusts, consumer protection, commercial litigation, or civil litigation.

Preferred qualifications include experience as the First Chair in jury trials involving consumer law.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Assistant Attorney General position ranges from $7, to $7, monthly. The position is exempt from overtime and is classified under the State Job Code 3510 for AAG I and 3511 for AAG II, with a salary administration plan grade of 22 to 24.

This position offers a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week and requires the ability to work more than 40 hours as needed, travel up to 20% of the time, and comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The role also requires the ability to lift and relocate up to 30 pounds.
