Job Title: Case Counseling Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Case Counseling Attorney (CCA) will be a part of the Legal Assistance Program team within the organization. The primary responsibilities of the CCA include providing support to pro bono attorneys and clients. This involves offering strategic guidance and ongoing supervision in cases processed through intake. The CCA is also responsible for participating in the recruitment and training of volunteer attorneys and legal assistants. This participation extends to designing and/or conducting ongoing webinars and brown bag training sessions on substantive or strategic issues faced by volunteers.
Moreover, the CCA will work closely with the Legal Assistance Program team to ensure responses to clients' needs are effective on both individual and systemic levels. The CCA will engage in the Attorney of the Day program, which involves fielding emergency calls and responding to walk-in clients. Additionally, the CCA will support client education and engagement efforts by leading "Know Your Rights" training sessions at shelters and day centers. The role also includes maintaining a personal caseload.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate for the Case Counseling Attorney position should have the following qualifications:
- A commitment to social and racial justice and client-centered representation.
- Experience working on issues related to public benefits, affordable housing, emergency shelter, or other issues related to homelessness and poverty.
- Eagerness to engage with clients, service providers, and volunteers in the community.
- Comfort working in an organization that may take unpopular positions if justice necessitates.

Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in legal services or an extensive pro bono practice.
- Experience in litigation.
- Experience in supervision and/or leadership.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Case Counseling Attorney position starts at $72,467 for attorneys in their first year of practice. The salary increases based on experience according to the organization's salary scale. The organization offers comprehensive benefits, including 100% paid health, dental, and vision plans for employees and their families, along with employer retirement contributions. Generous time off is provided, including two weeks of vacation initially, plus the last week of the year, three days at Thanksgiving, Emancipation Day, and all federal holidays. After five years of employment, employees are eligible for 90 days of paid sabbatical leave.
Working Conditions:
The organization currently operates on a hybrid work schedule, allowing flexibility to work from home. However, the Case Counseling Attorney is expected to be proximate to . to work from the organization's office as needed. The hybrid work schedule may change based on public health and other factors.
