Job Title: Court Commissioner

Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct hearings and adjudicate cases in various legal matters including Civil, Criminal, Family, Child Support, Juvenile, Probate, Small Claims, and Traffic.
- Hear testimony, rule on objections, admit evidence, and issue rulings.
- May serve as a Temporary Judge upon agreement of the parties involved.
- Work in a courtroom and in-person, with standard working hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and may be required to work additional hours as needed.
- May be assigned to any of the 36 courthouses within Los Angeles County and preside over any type of litigation, as determined by the needs of the Court.
- Serve under the authority of the Judges of the Court and are subject to the direction of the Presiding Judge and their designees.
- Expected to uphold the law and adjudicate cases fairly and efficiently.

Education and Experience Information:
- Must be a member of the State Bar of California with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience practicing law in California.
- Must be a resident of California and a United States Citizen.
- Required application attachments include proof of State Bar of California admission and current year status, a legal writing sample not exceeding 10 pages, a resume, a high-resolution headshot photograph, a brief biographical statement listing educational and legal experience, and references.
- A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation is required.

Salary Information:
- Monthly salary: $17,
- Annual salary: $208,

Additional Information:
- The position is full-time and at-will, serving at the pleasure of the Court without other vested terms of service.
- Commissioners are prohibited from practicing law during their employment with the Court.
- The Court offers a comprehensive benefits plan, including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance options. Participation in a deferred compensation plan with up to a 4% salary match, a savings plan with up to a 4% salary match, a retirement plan, paid vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays per year are also offered.
- A policy prohibits individuals from soliciting judges for support of Court Commissioner applicants to maintain the integrity of the recruitment process.
- Selection Procedure involves evaluation by the Court Commissioner Selection Committee, interviews by teams of judges, and a full Committee interview for the most qualified candidates. Candidates are placed on an eligibility list in rank order.
- Every Court Commissioner-elect must pass a criminal background investigation before appointment.
