Job Title: Claim Director-Environmental
Job Responsibilities:
The Claim Director for the Environmental Claims team at the company is responsible for handling first-party and third-party voluntary pollution claims. This role involves technical claim handling nationwide for company insureds. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing claim resolution strategies to ensure effective claim settlements.
- Recognizing significant potential exposures on claims and preparing appropriate alerts to senior managers and internal business partners.
- Providing exceptional service to internal and external business partners.
- Analyzing and identifying coverage issues, preparing comprehensive coverage letters, and communicating coverage positions to appropriate parties.
- Directing and closely monitoring cases with financial impact from inception through trial/resolution.
- Setting reserves within authority or making recommendations for reserve changes to management in a timely manner.
- Traveling to conferences, arbitrations, mediations, and trials as necessary, with travel ranging from 5% to 10%, potentially more based on business needs.
- Representing the company at meetings with management, business partners, mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, and trials.
Education and Experience Information:
- In-depth knowledge of environmental and casualty claims is required.
- 2-5 years of direct claims handling experience is necessary.
- Environmental specialists are strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials on different subjects from various sources is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills, with the ability to deal with customers and business partners in a professional manner, are required.
- Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based on detailed analysis of complex issues.
- Demonstrated strong relational skills, particularly in adverse or high-pressure situations.
- A law degree is not necessary but recommended.
Additional Requirements:
- If not already possessed, obtaining an applicable resident or designated home state adjuster’s license and possibly additional state licensure is required.
Salary Information:
The pay range for the role is $79,300 to $134,700. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, with more details available on their careers website. The disclosed pay range estimate may be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
