Job Title: Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Owns the development and performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of highly complex and severe liability claims.
- Continuously develops talent by creating growth opportunities and strengthening new skills for direct reports.
- Monitors team performance, analyzes problematic trends to identify root causes, and escalates issues or recommends solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocates for a culture committed to process efficiencies to improve work completion.
- Demonstrates passion and vision towards fostering a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, delivering continuous coaching, recognizing employees to reinforce behaviors ensuring service excellence, and holding others accountable for their teams' development.
- Advocates for claims customer service excellence by understanding and exceeding stakeholders’ expectations.
- Identifies changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes, developing training solutions to embed and sustain those practices within the organization.
- Identifies changes in technology to support the execution of practices and workflows, collaborating with IT counterparts for design, build, and testing.
- Utilizes data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborates with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Develops coverage acumen and proactively ensures team manages litigation effectively.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, particularly in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
- Advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
- Ability to manage diverse claims teams located in multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of Managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims handling.
- Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on claims issues like coverage, liability, and damage assessment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence through superior written and oral communications, effectively challenging ideas and advocating for one's point of view.
- Possesses emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Embraces changes and invites performance-related feedback, constructively dealing with criticism.
