Job Title: Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide timely and integral legal counsel and strategic advice on legislative, regulatory, litigation, and corporate issues as requested by senior leadership and assigned client groups.
- Assist various departments, offices, committees, and member companies within the organization on a portfolio of industry issues that require legal counsel, services, and advice.
- Identify legal issues presented by proposed government regulation, legislation, or policy.
- Evaluate client groups, draft legal memoranda and briefs, review client committee agendas and minutes, and attend client committee meetings.
- Prepare and review testimony and industry comments for administrative rulemakings, agency submissions, policy papers, and talking points on issues important to the industry, the institute, or its members.
- Participate in legislative and regulatory proceedings within assigned subject matter areas, working with designated staff and committees on issues, strategy development, consensus gathering, conflict resolution, and coalition-building with other organizations.
- Assist in identifying issues appropriate for litigation and engage in litigation or other judicial proceedings within the assigned subject matter area.
Education and Experience Information:
- A law degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in a similar role with subject-matter expertise for the Counsel position.
- Experience with oil and gas/natural resource law or environmental law is advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience in litigation, with a preference for Federal administrative law.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consensus-building skills are essential.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for the position is $158, to $254, annually.
- Candidates are typically hired at a point in the salary range based on prior experience, education, and market demand for the role; candidates are also compared internally to their peers.
Additional Information:
- The position requires the ability to remain stationary working on a computer, move about the office to access office machinery and meeting rooms, operate computers and other office machinery, and occasionally transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs.
- Travel requirements for the role are up to 25%.
