Commercial Legal Assistant -Paralegal Duties: Reviewing of contested files for determination of next course of action and proceeding as appropriate. Drafting and preparation of legal documents, such as Complaints, Applications for Default Judgment, Motions for Summary Judgment and Motions to Compel Discovery and discovery responses. Assisting attorneys in litigation, including counterclaims, court documents, scheduling of court hearings and hearing preparation. Handling client inquiries and updates pertaining to individual files. Reviewing and interpreting disclosure agreements, credit applications, equipment leases, engagement letters, service agreements, etc. Maintaining files, hearing notices, agendas, calendaring, etc. for each departmental attorney. Following up with courts and other legal departments regarding filed documents and hearings.
Qualifications: College Degree in Business, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, or related field preferred. 3+ years of experience in attorney support and/or the collection legal field preferred. 2 years of formal legal training or equivalent experience preferred. Experience in drafting pleadings, adversary attorney correspondence, and other related documents. Typing and keyboarding experience with 70+ WPM required. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Organizational, verbal, and written communication skills a must. Collection Law knowledge is helpful. Strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and multi-task is required. Ability to work in high-pressure situations regarding opposing counsel and the firm's attorneys.
