Job Title: Associate Counsel, California (Remote)
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Counsel at the company is responsible for defending lawsuits filed in California courts and handling other first-party insurance defense matters. The role involves:
- Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
- Defending assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Juris Doctor degree is required.
- Admission to the California Bar is mandatory.
- Candidates must have 2-6+ years of experience in litigation, specifically in insurance, defense, and/or personal injury.
- Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in California and meet all licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
- The ability to travel as necessary for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences is required.
- Strong documentation skills are necessary to ensure files are clear, concise, and professional.
- Candidates must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and have strong organizational, priority-setting, and multi-tasking skills.
- The ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in civil litigation.
- Experience in insurance defense-related litigation.
- Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and through written correspondence/email.
Salary Information:
The annual salary for the Associate Counsel position ranges from $112, to $186,. The final salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, work location, and market and business considerations.
