Job Title: Tax Manager, Alternative Investments
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager, Alternative Investments is responsible for providing tax compliance and consulting services to clients in the venture capital, private equity, hedge fund, and real estate sectors. Key duties include ensuring clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens and ensuring compliance with company policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual. The role involves applying an understanding of clients' unique circumstances to prepare required filings, ensuring data collection for filing requirements, and utilizing company compliance software for tax preparation efficiency. The manager collaborates effectively with Principals, Tax Seniors, and Associates, delivers high-quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services, leads complex engagements, manages engagements including billing and collections, builds and manages client relationships, and documents client work and conclusions.
In tax consulting, the manager assists in identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient tax strategies. The role also involves managing and mentoring teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required, with a focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
- Master's Degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience required.
- Experience in the financial services industry supporting alternative investment funds such as venture capital, private equity, real estate, and hedge funds preferred.
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role are beneficial.
Software:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases preferred.
- Proficiency in tax compliance process software preferred.
