Job Responsibilities:
The position of Associate Attorney in the **Members Only**, Special Litigation and Appeals Unit involves a range of responsibilities primarily focused on appellate practice. The role includes:
- Conducting in-depth legal research and organizing complex investigations.
- Preparing and presenting complex cases before administrative tribunals, trial, and appellate courts.
- Assisting in litigating a varied and proactive docket of mental health legal advocacy matters.
- Drafting high-quality written submissions such as appellate briefs, motion papers, and memoranda of law.
- Presenting oral arguments before appellate courts.
- Concluding litigation successfully, whether resulting in an order, judgment, or settlement.
- Traveling to appellate courts within New York State as required.
- Working under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Attorney in charge of Special Litigation and Appeals.
Education and Experience Information:
- Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
- Candidates should have two (2) years of service in the Senior Attorney title or possess equivalent legal experience.
- The position demands exceptional legal writing and research skills, with a strong emphasis on oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to complete assignments under strict time constraints is crucial.
Salary Information:
- The base salary for the Associate Attorney position is $110,853, with an additional $4,920 for location pay.

While the position is available at a specific location, the appointee may be subject to reassignment to any position in the same title within the promotion unit, depending on the needs of the Unified Court System.
