Job Responsibilities:
The position of Attorney JG: 23 involves serving in a confidential capacity under direct supervision. The primary responsibilities include researching legal questions and issues, preparing cases for administrative proceedings and litigation in the courts, and performing other related duties. Attorneys are expected to provide legal research and advocacy services in areas such as Mental Hygiene Legal Services, attorney disciplinary committees, and 18B panel administration. Specific duties include representing mentally ill, developmentally disabled, and incarcerated individuals facing civil commitment. Attorneys will present cases before administrative tribunals and courts, research and analyze legal questions and issues, and prepare confidential reports, memoranda, legal papers, and briefs. Additional responsibilities include interviewing litigants, witnesses, and other parties involved in administrative and judicial proceedings, particularly those dealing with mentally disabled clients, and drafting correspondence related to case inquiries. Extensive travel without reliance on public carriers is necessary for this position.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have admission to the New York State Bar to qualify for the position of Attorney JG: 23. This qualification ensures that applicants have the necessary legal education and credentials to perform the duties associated with the role.
Salary Information:
The base salary for the position of Attorney JG: 23 is $84,659.
