Job Responsibilities:
Associate Attorneys operate in a confidential capacity, conducting legal research and addressing complex legal questions and issues. They are responsible for organizing intricate investigations and preparing and presenting complex cases in administrative tribunals and trial and appellate courts. Their duties extend to providing legal research and advocacy services in various units such as the Mental Hygiene Legal Services, attorney disciplinary committees, and 18B panel administration. Additionally, they may oversee a departmental law guardian program. Specific responsibilities include representing mentally ill, developmentally disabled, and incarcerated individuals facing civil commitment. This role also involves presenting cases before administrative tribunals and courts, researching and analyzing legal questions, preparing confidential reports, memoranda, legal papers, and briefs. The Associate Attorney will interview litigants, witnesses, and other parties involved in administrative and judicial proceedings concerning mentally disabled clients. Drafting correspondence related to case inquiries is also part of the job.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must have admission to the New York State Bar and possess two years of service in the Senior Attorney title or have equivalent legal experience. This requirement highlights the need for a solid legal background and experience in handling complex legal matters.
Salary Information:
The base salary for the position of Associate Attorney is $110,853.
