H2: General Internship Program Information

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office offers a Fall Internship Program for law students interested in public service and criminal law. The program provides hands-on experience and the opportunity to work in different units within the office. The program is administered by Assistant District Attorney Sarah Weikart and applications will be accepted from July 1, 2025 to August 8, 2025.

H2: Units Available for Internship Placement

Interns may be placed in the Phoenix (Misdemeanor Court) unit within the office.

H2: Application Process

Law students interested in the Fall Internship Program should indicate in their cover letters whether they are interested in a paid internship or for credit externship. On Campus Interviews (OCIs) are available at select law schools, and students should apply through their school's OCI program. Non-OCI Applicants and undergraduate students should submit a cover letter and resume to Assistant District Attorney Sarah Weikart by the specified deadline. Approval of credits by the student's school does not guarantee a position with the office.

H2: Intern Duties

All interns will have the opportunity to participate in legal research and writing, clerical duties, and assisting attorneys in trial preparation. Certified Legal Interns will also have the opportunity to appear in court on behalf of the Commonwealth under the supervision of an Assistant District Attorney. Eligible students should consider this an opportunity to gain valuable courtroom experience before finishing law school.

H2: Fall and Spring Positions

Paid internship positions are available throughout the year, with a limited number of positions available. Interested students should contact Assistant District Attorney Sarah Weikart for more information and to inquire about openings. Paid interns are required to work 20 hours per week and should consider this time commitment in conjunction with their class schedule before applying.
