We are currently seeking a Sr. Coverage Counsel- Specialty to join our National Claims Counsel office. This is a full-time, exempt role that can be remote-based or at one of our office locations in Howell, MI, Richmond, VA, or Worcester, MA.
Reporting to the Managing Counsel Claims Legal, the Sr. Coverage Counsel – Specialty will provide legal counsel to Hanover’s claim organization, with a focus on coverage and extra-contractual issues arising from the company’s insurance policies and coverage positions. This role will primarily focus on specialty claims, such as management liability, EPLI, and professional liability. The Sr. Coverage Counsel will research and provide legal advice and opinions to claims handlers, partner with them to develop strategies for resolving coverage disputes, and may manage selective coverage litigation. The ideal candidate will have significant experience preparing coverage opinions for claims-made insurance policies and preferably have experience litigating insurance coverage and related bad faith disputes. They must also have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within a team framework.
To be considered for this role, candidates must have a JD degree or equivalent and be admitted to practice in at least one US jurisdiction. They should have 6 or more years of experience practicing law, with a substantial portion of that involving property & casualty insurance coverage matters. The ideal candidate will also be skilled at time management and organizing work.
