Job Title: Bilingual Immigration Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Commitment to the mission, values, and vision of the organization.
- Provide direct immigration legal services and representation to immigrants before USCIS, EOIR, BIA, District Court, and other necessary forums. This includes representation, preparation for self-representation, obtaining continuances for assessment, and referring cases to other attorneys.
- Conduct client interviews using a trauma-informed approach.
- Document all work in the Legal Server case management software.
- Organize and conduct outreach and educational presentations.
- Develop and maintain community relationships with other non-profit agencies, government officials, employees, community leaders, and others.
- Travel within the service area and to meetings or conferences in other parts of North Carolina.
- Adhere to program priorities, case handling policies, procedures, and standards of practice, maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards.
- Keep abreast of legal developments and disseminate information to staff, volunteer attorneys, and the public.
- Collaborate with volunteers, including volunteer attorneys, regularly.
- Assist in fundraising in coordination with the Development Team.
Education and Experience Information:
- Licensed attorney in the United States, with preference for those licensed in North Carolina, though it is not required.
- Immigration law experience is preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income people and communities.
- Demonstrated socio-economic and cultural sensitivity.
- Willingness to regularly assist upset or ill people.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with teams and independently.
- Fluency in English and Spanish (verbal & written) is required, with the ability to interpret and translate between English and Spanish.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Salary Information:
- Salary ranges from $63,901 to $115,022 annually, depending on experience.
- Additional bilingual language skills applicable to this role may qualify for up to an additional $3,000 upon completing a language assessment test.
- The salary scale is predetermined based on the years of relevant professional work experience to ensure equity in pay.
