Job Responsibilities:
As an Insurance Defense Trial Attorney, you will be responsible for managing the entire legal process from investigation and discovery through trial preparation, court proceedings, and negotiating settlements as required. You will engage in complex civil litigation matters involving claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage of mid to high-level exposure. Your role includes developing appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation, sharing these with claims representatives and insured clients, and maintaining strong relationships with both. You will also be tasked with developing and rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies, drafting legal documents, pleadings, motions, and opinions. Additionally, you will provide guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals, or law clerks and occasionally conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments.

Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for this position, you must have membership in the New York State Bar and possess any appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts, which are preferred. A minimum of five years of successful experience as a first chair in trials is essential, with a strong preference for experience in insurance defense. You should hold a JD degree.

Skills required include the ability to cultivate strong working relationships with internal and external partners, detail-oriented and analytical thinking, and persuasive oral and written communication skills. A broad knowledge of insurance law and familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law, as well as pertinent knowledge in related fields, are necessary. You should have a process-oriented mindset with proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized, as well as proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work.

Salary Information:
The typical starting salary range for this role is between $125,000 and $144,000 annually. Company offers a range of benefits, including 20 days of flexible time off each year, personal holidays, a pension plan, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions. The company is committed to fostering an environment where employees from all backgrounds can build long and meaningful careers, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
