Law firm Best Best & Krieger (BBK) is seeking law students to join their 2026 2L Summer Associate Program. This eight-week paid position offers a unique opportunity to gain diverse legal experience and mentorship in a private law firm setting.

Diverse Practice Areas

Summer associates will have the chance to work on a variety of legal matters, including environmental and natural resources, labor and employment, business transactions, public finance, telecommunications, real estate, transportation, and public infrastructure. This exposure to different practice areas allows for a well-rounded understanding of how legal work can shape and impact communities.

Professional Development

Participate in professional development trainings focused on best writing practices, effective legal research techniques, law firm finances, diversity, professionalism, partnership advancement, and marketing. These sessions will help sharpen research and writing skills, as well as provide valuable insights into the legal profession.

Engaging Client Opportunities

Summer associates will have the opportunity to attend city council and public agency meetings, court hearings, site visits, board meetings, mediations, and depositions alongside BBK attorneys. This hands-on experience allows for a deeper understanding of the legal process and the chance to work on real cases for clients.

Mentorship and Firm Culture

Each summer associate will be matched with two dedicated mentors to assist with integration into the firm's practices, answer questions, and make connections. This mentorship provides valuable guidance and support throughout the summer program. Additionally, social events such as cooking classes, trivia nights, community service activities, recreational outings, art classes, and sporting events allow summer associates to get to know the attorneys and firm culture on a more personal level.

Individualized Experience and Feedback

BBK's open work assignment system allows summer associates to work with different attorneys across the firm's office locations and practice groups. This provides a diverse work experience and the opportunity to network with different attorneys. Summer associates will also receive constructive feedback and an individualized mid-summer review, as well as the chance to rank their interest in specific practice areas for potential placement within the firm after the program.
