Job Title: Tax Manager, Core Tax Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services is tasked with advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and evaluating alternative actions to minimize tax burdens and compliance costs. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens for clients, and ensuring self and teams comply with company policies and standards.
- Conducting top-level reviews of tax returns and resolving issues with clients, involving specialists as needed.
- Planning and reviewing tax processes and procedures, including budgeting, staffing, monitoring engagements, timely billing, and collection of accounts receivable.
- Managing client relationships and expectations in line with project requirements.
- Providing timely advice to clients.
- Identifying research needs, framing issues, and reporting analysis.
- Applying firm policies regarding tax accruals and explaining income tax provisions and uncertain tax positions to clients.
- Assisting with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by decreasing taxes.
- Serving as a technical resource and ensuring compliance with Written Tax Advice policies.
- Developing an understanding of technical and practical tax issues in areas such as individual, corporate, property, sales, state and local, international, and more.
- Introducing and developing new ideas to improve client and firm positions, leveraging lessons from prior projects.
Supervisory responsibilities include:
- Supervising associates and senior associates on projects.
- Reviewing work prepared by associates and providing feedback.
- Training associates and seniors on software tools.
- Acting as a career advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Scheduling and managing workloads of associates and senior associates.
- Providing verbal and written performance feedback.
Education and Experience Information:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- A Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties is preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) certification is required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.
Software knowledge:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.
