**Job Title: Special Investigative Counsel**
**Job Responsibilities:**
The Special Investigative Counsel is tasked with conducting highly confidential and sensitive investigations into corruption, fraud, and waste within various New York City agencies overseen by the Department of Investigation's Squad 10. These agencies include the Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Design and Construction, and Department of Parks and Recreation. The Counsel's responsibilities include:
- Drafting and editing a variety of documents for both public and internal audiences, including complex investigative reports and legal memoranda.
- Reviewing and analyzing legal documents, financial records, and other relevant materials, such as contracts, vendor records, agency policies, and controls.
- Conducting legal research and analysis to support investigations.
- Preparing subpoenas and document requests and managing responses to these legal instruments.
- Conducting interviews with witnesses and subjects involved in investigations.
- Collaborating with other investigative units, prosecutorial bodies, and City agencies to ensure comprehensive investigations.
The role requires extensive legal writing experience, notably in drafting and editing investigative reports, case referrals, subpoenas, court orders, and legal correspondence.
**Education and Experience Information:**
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school is preferred.
- Active bar membership from any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands.
- A minimum of four years of recent full-time relevant legal experience in investigations, criminal or civil litigation, government, regulatory, or similar legal fields.
- At least 18 months in a supervisory, administrative, managerial, or executive capacity.
- Candidates must have the approval of the Commissioner of Investigation and demonstrate experience in exercising discretion and professional judgment in significant policy matters related to criminal justice or areas particularly relevant to the Office of the Inspector General.
Preferred skills include excellent legal writing and editing skills, effective communication of complex information, experience in conducting interviews and taking depositions, and a high degree of professionalism. Familiarity with New York City government is beneficial but not required.
**Salary Information:**
The salary range for the Special Investigative Counsel position is $66, to $123, annually.
**Additional Information:**

- If selected, candidates will undergo fingerprinting and a background investigation, which includes a review of consumer credit history for positions with law enforcement or investigative functions.
