Job Summary:
The Department of Law is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights section of the General Litigation Division. This position may potentially be considered a remote position and is open to candidates residing in Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, and Macon, Georgia.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited law school
- Member of the Georgia Bar
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of litigation experience
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent state officers and employees in federal lawsuits seeking injunctive relief and money damages
- Travel is required in this position
- Litigate cases by appearing in federal courts to try cases and argue motions and appeals
- Research and prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs
- Work with expert witnesses
- Prepare discovery requests and responses
- Provide legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies
- Conduct research on pertinent legal issues and stay updated on recent legal developments
- Participate in multistate working groups
- Review sign-on opportunities for letters, comments, and briefs
- Attend continuing legal education seminars and make presentations
- Travel as required by the position (typically not much travel is required)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
