Job Title: Assistant Attorney General - Health and Social Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General in the Health and Social Services section of the Government Services & Employment Division is tasked with providing legal advice and representation to various health and social services agencies in Georgia. These agencies include the Department of Human Services, the Department of Community Health, the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, the Department of Public Health, the Department of Early Care and Learning, the Office of Child Advocate, and the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency. The primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Litigating cases by participating in hearings and appearing in state and federal courts to try cases and argue motions and appeals.
- Researching and preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Attending depositions, interviewing witnesses, and hiring expert witnesses.
- Participating in settlement negotiations.
- Preparing pleadings and discovery responses.
- Providing legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies and drafting memoranda of advice.
- Conducting research on pertinent legal issues and staying updated on recent legal developments.
- Drafting formal opinions in response to legal questions.
- Attending client, board, departmental, and division meetings as required.
- Attending continuing legal education seminars as required and possibly making presentations at the same.
- Traveling as required by the position.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited law school.
- Membership in the Georgia Bar.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference is given to applicants with:
- Experience in drafting and arguing dispositive motions in state court.
- Experience in drafting appellate briefs.
- Experience in federal civil rights litigation or the Georgia Juvenile Code.
- A working knowledge of the requirements of the Administrative Procedure Act.

Employment is contingent upon completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check. Candidates being strongly considered will also be required to submit a Department of Law employment application and waiver to background check, a Georgia Department of Revenue Tax Clearance letter, and copies of official college and law transcripts. Salary Information:
