Job Title: Associate Counsel, California (Remote)
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Counsel at the company is responsible for defending lawsuits filed in California courts and handling other first-party insurance defense cases. Key duties include:
- Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
- Defending assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Associate Counsel position must meet the following qualifications:
- Possess a Juris Doctor degree.
- 2-6+ years of litigation experience, specifically in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
- Admission to the California Bar is required, with the candidate being licensed in good standing to practice law in California.
- Ability to meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
- Must be able to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
- Ability to document files in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
- Capable of following complex instructions, resolving conflicts, and possessing strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in civil litigation.
- Experience in insurance defense-related litigation.
- Strong communication skills, both in person and via tele,. The final salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined by multiple factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's work experience, education and training, work location, and market and business considerations.
