Job Responsibilities
Law student volunteers at the organization are tasked with a variety of responsibilities that encompass all facets of case preparation. These responsibilities include:
- Researching legal issues relevant to the cases being handled by the office.
- Drafting and writing motions, responses, and various pleadings to support legal processes.
- Providing trial support, which may involve helping attorneys prepare for court appearances.
- Interviewing witnesses to gather pertinent information for cases.
- Assembling exhibits for trial to ensure all necessary documentation and evidence are organized and ready for presentation.
Interns are also given the opportunity to attend trials, hearings, attorney conferences, meetings, and other legal proceedings, providing them with practical exposure to the workings of the legal system.

Education and Experience Information
Eligible candidates for the law student volunteer positions are first-year (second semester), second-, and third-year law students. Law graduates are not eligible for these student volunteer positions.

Candidates must be . citizens due to the sensitive nature of the work performed by the office. Additionally, applicants must successfully complete a suitability review and receive a favorable determination based on information provided in their security forms, which includes a credit report and fingerprint check.

Salary Information
Law student volunteers are not compensated for their work. However, they may receive course credit in accordance with their respective school policies.

Application Process
Interested candidates are required to submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, legal writing sample, and dates of availability. Candidates must also provide telephone numbers where they can be reached during the day and evening. Applicants should indicate their preference for the Civil Division or the Criminal Division.

Students attending Massachusetts law schools must apply through the Massachusetts Law Consortium. Out-of-state students applying for a Criminal Division internship must email their application materials to the specified email address for the organization. Similarly, out-of-state students applying for a Civil Division internship must email their application materials to the designated email address.

The application deadline is December 12. The orientation and start date for internships are tentative and will not be confirmed until the security investigation is complete and the applicant receives approval.
