Job Title: Temporary Legal Assistant Trainee - Litigation
Job Responsibilities:
The Temporary Legal Assistant Trainee - Litigation will be responsible for providing critical support to five to eight attorneys within the commercial litigation practice group. The role involves quickly learning and applying federal and state court rules, drafting, editing, and formatting pleadings and discovery documents, and understanding filing procedures in both federal and state courts. Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting, proofreading, formatting, and editing pleadings, discovery responses, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Utilizing billing software to run client-related accounting reports and preparing spreadsheets analyzing client billing data.
- Maintaining electronic files using NetDocs.
- Scheduling depositions and meetings, making travel arrangements, and maintaining attorneys' calendars.
- Tracking and calendaring internal and case-related deadlines.
- Opening new client matters and initiating conflict checks.
- Entering billable time into the time-keeping system.
Education and Experience Information:
- A high school diploma or GED certification is required, while a degree is preferred.
- The candidate should possess strong skills in word processing and computer use, with the ability to type 65 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat or Nuance is required, with some knowledge of PowerPoint, time-keeping programs, NetDocs, and SharePoint sites preferred.
- The candidate must have the ability to read and understand court rules, including filing procedures and formatting requirements, and ensure compliance with court rules and assigned judge’s individual rules and practices.
- High attention to detail and sensitivity to confidential materials are essential.
- Ability to work independently, anticipate needed tasks, and willingness to learn new electronic programs.
- Excellent grammar, proofreading, and organizational skills are required.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary.
- The candidate should have a high level of energy, be able to work at a fast pace, prioritize tasks, and handle stressful situations in a calm, composed manner.
- Ability to understand and follow work instructions with minimal supervision.
- Availability and willingness to work overtime as needed or requested.
Salary Information:
The hourly range for this position in Washington is to . Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Paid sick leave is accrued on a biweekly basis at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked. Temporary employees working at least 30 hours per week may be eligible for health insurance with an optional HSA, dental insurance, vision care, telemedicine and virtual short-term solution-based counseling services, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, sick time, and an employee assistance program.
Additional Information:
The position is temporary, lasting six months, with the potential to convert to a full-time opportunity for the right candidate. It requires five days in-office.
