Title: Assistant Attorney General - Child Support Enforcement
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General in the Child Support Enforcement Division is responsible for handling child support enforcement cases and other litigation across several counties in southern Illinois. The role involves representing the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a high volume of cases, primarily focusing on child support enforcement.
- Handling additional legal matters such as personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, excess assistance recoveries, administrative review actions, bankruptcy cases in federal court, and miscellaneous matters.
- Appearing in court several times a week, managing multiple cases during each call, and conducting formal evidentiary hearings when necessary.
- Preparing pleadings and responses to motions, and conducting legal research.
- Demonstrating excellent litigation and negotiation skills.
- Maintaining superior interpersonal skills to foster good working relationships with court officials, agency staff, and families requiring child support enforcement services.
- Traveling extensively to various counties in southern Illinois.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Illinois at the time of application. A strong candidate will have demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for trial work, along with experience in handling a high volume of cases. Excellent litigation and negotiation skills are essential for this role.
Salary Information:
Salaries for the Assistant Attorney General position are commensurate with the number of years of practice as a licensed attorney, ranging from $82,000 to $107,550.
