Job Title: Mass Torts Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Mass Torts Staff Attorney will join the Mass Torts Practice Group at the law firm, focusing on consumer protection litigation defense for manufacturers. The role encompasses various aspects of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motions practice, and trial, with cases in state courts, federal courts, and arbitration. Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing and synthesizing materials, records, and documentation to prepare detailed case evaluations and developing defense and settlement recommendations for consumer protection litigation defense.
- Preparing financial analyses and calculating damages and/or settlement figures based on manufacturer and consumer documentation and records, in line with applicable legal requirements.
- Managing cases effectively and reliably with minimal supervision, while being autonomous in handling assigned cases and accessing seasoned litigators' knowledge and experience.
- Producing consistent and succinct reports and summaries for legal teams and clients, aligned with client goals and defense strategies.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess at least three years of experience in warranty defense, insurance defense, product liability, or financial services litigation. Essential qualifications include:
- The ability to multitask and manage an active litigation caseload with multiple cases at varying stages.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in calculating damages for legal risk and settlement options, with a preference for depth of experience in conducting financial calculations for damages and settlements.
- Dynamic oral argument and communication skills, maintaining professional courtesy while negotiating with adversaries, and interfacing with clients, client representatives, and experts.
- Excellent organizational skills, being both a team player and a self-starter capable of working independently and seeking increasing levels of responsibility.
- The ability to work effectively in a team across different offices, collaborating to analyze and strategize case handling.
- Proficiency in database management, web-based portal systems, and SharePoint is preferred.
Candidates must be licensed in California and in good standing, though highly qualified candidates licensed in other states are considered. They must be willing to periodically travel for court appearances and other necessary proceedings. The firm is open to remote, part-time, or flexible hour arrangements.
Salary Information:
The national average salary for the Staff Attorney role is between $50,000 and $150,000. The starting salary will depend on the candidate's location, qualifications, and experience. The law firm offers competitive compensation, including a range of benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and Paid Days Off (PDO)/Vacation. A discretionary bonus may be available based on performance.
