Job Title: Fellowship
Job Responsibilities:
- Conducting legal and factual research.
- Writing briefs and memoranda.
- Drafting agreements and transactional documents.
- Counseling clients.
- Participating in administrative hearings and case strategy discussions.
- Appearing in court (once admitted to practice in California).
Education and Experience Information:
The fellowship is open to highly qualified recent law school graduates, public-interest fellows, and judicial clerks. Fellows are expected to function as junior associates and gain hands-on experience and instruction in various areas of law, including environmental, land use, energy, real estate, and local government law, as well as law firm management.
Salary Information:
Compensation for the fellowship is currently $118,764 per year. The position also includes generous medical, retirement, vacation, and sick leave benefits, although these terms may be subject to modification over time.
Additional Information:
The fellowship offers twice-yearly in-depth reviews that provide fellows with the opportunity to discuss their progress and ensure they are gaining a broad base of experience. Fellows receive extensive informal mentoring from senior attorneys and support from peers. The program allows fellows to take on significant responsibility early in their fellowship.
Past fellows have secured positions as counsel for state or local public agencies or environmental nonprofits, deputy city attorneys and attorneys general, associates in the sustainable energy or land use practice groups of law firms, and law school professors.
Applications must be submitted by September 1 for fellowships commencing in the fall of the following calendar year.
