Compensation will grow rapidly if good effort is seen. We have 3 lawyers in our office, and one legal secretary. Two of the lawyers do most of their own typing. The third lawyer, me, will often have documents typed by our secretary. The person we hire will have excellent typing skills and will have experience with Word, Excel, and Office, all Microsoft products. The secretary needs to have good social skills, as she/he will be the receptionist and will answer the phone. An interest in learning will be a key component of the person we hire. We want a secretary who is unafraid to ask questions, out of a desire to learn about the law and be able to apply that knowledge to his or her work product. During the 44 plus years in the practice of law, I have had 5, legal secretaries who were really interested in learning. Those 5 legal secretaries were here for a combined total of 37 of those 44 years. Hours are 9 to 5, five days a week,
