Job Title: Deputy City Solicitor - Civil Rights Unit
Job Responsibilities:
- Advise and represent the **Members Only** and its employees in both state and federal courts, before judges and juries.
- Present evidence to defend clients or impeach plaintiffs in tort litigation.
- Communicate with clients, colleagues, judges, and others involved in the case.
- Conduct research and analysis of legal problems.
- Study federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and government agencies.
- Present facts in writing and verbally to clients or others and argue on behalf of the clients.
- Prepare and file legal documents such as preliminary objections, answers, and dispositive motions.
- Supervise legal assistants.
- Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents.
- Negotiate settlements.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum Education Required: College degree.
- Law degree from an ABA accredited law school.
- Minimum of five or more years of litigation experience, preferably involving civil rights litigation.
- Must either be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or currently eligible to be admitted by reciprocity to practice in Pennsylvania (. 204).
- Continued employment for attorneys not admitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six months of hire is at the discretion of the department.

- Knowledge of applicable laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules and processes, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn.
- Ability to analyze large amounts of information, determine relevant facts, and propose viable solutions.
- Ability to find applicable laws and regulations for specific matters.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively in writing and verbally.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to foster and maintain a collegial, inclusive, and professional work environment.
- Excellent writing, case management, negotiating, and trial skills.
- Ability to train professional legal staff as well as non-legal staff on applicable legal requirements.
- Ability to use computer programs like PowerPoint or MS Office.
- Excellent judgment and critical thinking in high-pressure situations.

- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work on teams and collaborate with colleagues and clients.
Salary Information:
- Salary Range: $86,554 - $104,099, commensurate with education and experience.
Additional Information:
- The successful candidate must be a resident of the **Members Only** within six months of hire.
- Effective May 22, 2023, vaccinations are no longer required for new employees in non-medical, non-emergency, or non-patient-facing positions with the **Members Only**.
