Job Title: Sales & Use Tax Senior, State and Local Tax
Job Responsibilities:
The Sales & Use Tax Senior in State and Local Tax is responsible for applying industry knowledge and experience to assist clients in understanding the tax implications of their business objectives. The role involves recommending alternative courses of action, identifying methods to comply with tax regulations, and minimizing tax burdens and compliance costs. Key responsibilities include:
- Research: Conducting thorough research to identify when research is needed, framing issues, analyzing facts and authorities, and reporting analyses. This includes understanding various tax authorities and applying firm and professional standards in the preparation of WTA and tax returns.
- Tax Compliance: Ensuring client compliance with all applicable tax authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens. This involves tracking client-related filing requirements, applying tax compliance knowledge accurately, developing services according to SOX rulings, managing tax engagement letters, and conducting detailed reviews of tax returns.
- Tax Consulting: Developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by decreasing current and future taxes. This involves consulting with other state tax specialists, interpreting laws, and applying work plans for tax consulting projects.
- Tax Controversy: Reviewing assessment notices, monitoring client expectations regarding controversy issues, and handling routine questions from federal or state agencies.
- Tax Related Software: Utilizing tax-related software such as GoSystems and tax research databases, and training staff on current software tools.
- Tax Specialization: Gaining an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in taxation, managing specialization services efficiently, and conducting internal CPE training sessions.
- Accounting for Income Taxes – SFAS109: Reviewing basic tax provisions and assisting others in learning and applying FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Strategy Development: Developing new ideas to advance client positions, assisting in tax strategy research and implementation, and building client relationships for marketing and business development.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervising work assignments of STS SALT Associates.
- Providing periodic performance feedback and participating in annual performance evaluations for STS SALT Associates.
- Acting as a mentor and assisting in professional development.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: A bachelor's degree is required, with a master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or . preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of state and local/multistate experience is required.
- License/Certifications: CPA certification or other relevant certification is preferred.
Salary Information:
Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of various factors, including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The salary range is as follows:
- National Range: $73,500 - $131,250
- Maryland Range: $73,500 - $131,250
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $73,500 - $131,250
- Washington DC Range: $73,500 - $131,250
