The Baltimore region includes offices in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, Howard County, and Carroll County. These positions offer a competitive salary range of $93,424 - $135,450 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. As a full-time position, this role is not open to individuals who are currently engaged in the private practice of law.

Job Summary:
The Experienced Attorney position at MOPD requires exceptional trial skills, innovative thinking, and the ability to work independently in managing an active felony caseload. The attorney will represent clients in all stages of their criminal case and work in conjunction with a team of social workers, investigators, and experts. This position also involves advocating for systemic change to address issues of prejudice and inequity in the criminal legal system. Office placements will be determined based on the needs of MOPD at the time of offer.
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in all stages of their criminal case, including bail hearings, motions hearings, trials, and post-trial hearings
- Conduct legal research and analysis to prepare for trial and anticipate legal problems
- Draft reports, memoranda, briefs, motions, and correspondence for clients
- Communicate effectively with clients, team members, colleagues, and service providers
- Counsel and advise clients on changes in law, court decisions, and legal issues
- Negotiate with prosecutors, judges, and other stakeholders to resolve cases favorably for the client
- Manage a full caseload competently, independently, and resourcefully
- Attend various training sessions for professional development
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent from an accredited school of law
- Experience as a practicing Attorney
- Admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland by the Court of Appeals
- Demonstrated commitment to serving marginalized communities
- Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Clear dedication to addressing systemic racism and inequity in the criminal legal system
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Criminal jury trial experience required; felony jury trial experience preferred
- Active membership in good standing in the Maryland Bar or Bar of another state (attorneys barred in another state must become members of the Maryland Bar within 18 months of their start date with MOPD)
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary range of $93,424 - $135,450 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
