The California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. (CRLA) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Staff Attorney to join our team in the Fresno office. As a non-profit organization, CRLA is dedicated to fighting for justice and individual rights alongside the most exploited communities in our society. With a mission to provide legal services to tens of thousands of low-income individuals annually, CRLA's work impacts a wide range of marginalized populations including farmworkers, indigenous communities, individuals with disabilities, immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, women, children, and low-income families in rural areas. As a Staff Attorney at CRLA, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of dedicated legal professionals and make a positive impact on the lives of low-income individuals and communities. In this role, you will provide comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in accordance with CRLA program guidelines and ethical standards. You will also have the opportunity to work on significant statewide impact activities, including litigation and community economic development projects, and develop specialized knowledge in a particular area of poverty law. Additionally, you will have the chance to collaborate with other human services providers, non-profit organizations, and community and client advocacy groups to coordinate advocacy efforts and provide community education regarding legal rights.
The ideal candidate for this role will be admitted to practice law in the state of California or willing to take the next California Bar Exam. They will also have demonstrated commitment to working with low-income clients and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience working with low-income families and communities, preferably in a non-profit legal services environment, and be bilingual in English and Spanish. CRLA offers a diverse and family-friendly work environment with competitive public interest salaries and a generous benefits package, including 100% employer-covered medical, dental, vision, life, and short & long-term disability insurance for employees and up to 50% for dependents coverage. The salary for this union position ranges from $73,000 to $104,000, depending on each year of admission to practice law in any . jurisdiction and any relevant law-related work experience prior to being admitted to practice law.
As a Staff Attorney at CRLA, your responsibilities will include providing legal services to low-income clients and client groups, including advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy in accordance with program priorities and case-handling policies. You will also be responsible for reviewing and supervising the work product of Community Workers and Clerical support staff, as well as undertaking significant statewide impact activities and developing leadership in working with community, client, and other advocacy groups. Additionally, you will work to develop specialized knowledge in a substantive area of poverty law and act as a resource for other staff through participation in CRLA task forces. You will have the opportunity to coordinate advocacy efforts in substantive areas through collaboration with other human services providers, non-profit organizations, and community, client, or other advocacy groups. You will also have the chance to participate in CRLA training programs, local office case reviews or staff meetings, and other CRLA activities as required. Other responsibilities may include providing community education regarding legal rights, working with members of the private bar as necessary, maintaining contemporaneous time records in the CRLA case management system, and maintaining a good working relationship with all members of the office staff.
