The NYC Law Department Special Federal Litigation Division is seeking an experienced attorney to join their team as an Assistant Corporation Counsel. The successful candidate will work on motion practice, assist in drafting and revising NYPD policies related to the monitorship, and attend high level meetings with internal NYPD staff, the Monitor, and class counsel. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $87, – $175,.

The Assistant Corporation Counsel will have the opportunity to work on police reform and monitorship issues in a unique role with the NYC Law Department. They will be part of a team providing legal counsel to the NYPD in connection with the continued development, implementation, and compliance with the City’s relationship with a federal Monitor appointed by the Court to oversee policing reforms. This position also involves attending in-person training at various NYPD facilities and responding to inquiries from the monitor and other interested parties, as well as meeting court deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of litigation experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school, preferably in federal practice, municipal liability, constitutional, or personal injury law. They must also be admitted to practice law in the State of New York and be admitted or eligible for immediate admission to the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills are a must for this position.

As a prospective employee of the City of New York, the Assistant Corporation Counsel may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel to the NYPD in connection with the federal monitorship

- Review and prepare documents, audio files, and video footage for disclosure to and/or inspection by class counsel
- Attend high level internal NYPD meetings, as well as meetings with the Monitor and class counsel
- Attend in-person training at various NYPD facilities
- Respond to inquiries from the monitor and other interested parties
- Meet court deadlines

Minimum Qualifications:
