Title: Staff Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney at the Immigrants’ Rights Project (IRP) within the organization’s National Office is tasked with conducting impact litigation and advocacy to advance and enforce immigrants’ rights. This role involves challenging rights abuses, particularly those arising from community and worksite raids and other federal enforcement strategies aimed at mass deportation. The attorney will litigate in federal courts nationwide and potentially in state courts, managing a substantial caseload in federal court. Responsibilities include working closely with other staff attorneys, local counsel, immigrant rights organizations, and clients. The attorney will conduct legal research, write legal memoranda, organize and participate in multi-organization rapid responses to immigration enforcement events, engage in fact-gathering through interviews and investigations, and analyze legislation for potential litigation. Additional duties involve drafting pleadings and briefs, engaging in discovery and motion practice, conducting evidentiary hearings and oral arguments, providing technical assistance and expert legal advice, conducting policy advocacy, developing new cases and non-litigation advocacy projects, and engaging in public speaking on immigrants’ rights issues.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a . degree and active Bar membership, with experience in complex civil litigation in federal courts. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently and within a team, fostering a collaborative environment. Excellent legal research and writing skills, along with the ability to perform complex legal analytical work, are essential. The candidate should be self-motivated, diligent, and able to meet strict deadlines in a dynamic environment. The role requires the ability to travel frequently, often on short notice and for extended periods. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred, and fluency in other languages commonly spoken by immigrants in the . is also preferred. Experience working in immigrant community settings and with reporters and the media is preferred.

Salary Information:
The organization has a litigator scale for determining pay for attorneys in the Legal Department. The salary range based on years since law school graduation is as follows:

0-2 years: $92,374-$115,393
3-5 years: $129,244-$152,480
6-10 years: $159,461-$179,891
11-15 years: $183,255-$193,657
16-20 years: $195,485-$200,519
21-25 years: $201,534-$205,663
26-30+ years: $206,654-$210,677
