Job Title: Attorney III - V
Job Responsibilities:
- Advise department staff on state and federal laws and regulations impacting the agency or regulated entities.
- Provide guidance to department staff, regulated entities, and the public on the interpretation and application of laws and regulations enforced by the department.
- Conduct legal research to support department initiatives and decisions.
- Prepare and review legal documents, reports, legal opinions, and briefs.
- Assist in the review and drafting of legislation and rules pertinent to the department's operations.
- Contribute to the formulation, coordination, and establishment of department policies and procedures.
- Engage in administrative enforcement actions and represent the department in administrative hearings.
- Collaborate with the Attorney General’s Office in preparation for court trials.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the department's General Counsel.
Education and Experience Information:
- Attorney III: Requires graduation from an accredited law school with a . or . degree and a minimum of three years of experience as an attorney, including experience with state and/or federal regulatory, compliance, trust, or financial institution-related issues. Must be a member in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
- Attorney IV: Requires graduation from an accredited law school with a . or . degree and a minimum of four years of experience as an attorney, including the same areas of experience as Attorney III. Must be a member in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
- Attorney V: Requires graduation from an accredited law school with a . or . degree and a minimum of five years of experience as an attorney, including the same areas of experience as Attorney III. Must be a member in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of laws, regulations, and rules applicable to entities regulated by the Department of Banking.
- Proficiency and experience in business and commercial law.
- Experience in administrative and civil litigation.
- Familiarity with the Texas Administrative Procedure Act and the Texas Public Information Act.
- Experience in drafting legislation and regulations.
- Understanding of laws, regulations, and practices related to state and national banks and money services businesses.
- Knowledge of state laws and regulations concerning perpetual care cemeteries and prepaid funeral contracts.
Salary Information:
- The position offers a monthly salary range of $6, - $15,, commensurate with experience and classification level (Attorney III to V).
Additional Requirements and Information:
- The position requires moderate overnight travel, up to 5%.
- Applicants must possess or obtain a valid Texas Driver’s license within 90 days and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
- The position demands strong personal financial responsibility and integrity.

- The role requires regular and punctual attendance, frequent use of office equipment, and the ability to work under stress and in direct contact with others.
