A law firm seeks a talented Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate to join its growing team in Reno, NV. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and complex patent matters, particularly within the Electrical Engineering & Software or Mechanical fields. The successful candidate will play a key role in patent prosecution and litigation, supporting both individual inventors and large corporations in securing their intellectual property rights.

Duties:

  • Handle patent prosecution responsibilities including drafting patent applications, responding to office actions, and managing client communications.
  • Manage litigation-related tasks such as preparing legal briefs, supporting discovery efforts, and collaborating with senior attorneys on trial preparation.
  • Provide expert legal guidance on patent matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with clients, providing strategic advice on patent portfolios and intellectual property strategy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technological advancements in relevant fields and intellectual property law to ensure clients' patents are well-protected.
  • Coordinate with technical experts, including engineers and scientists, to build strong case foundations and provide effective legal strategies.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a solid track record of application drafting.
  • Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience in the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field, such as physics or mathematics.
  • A deep understanding of patent law, particularly about prosecution and litigation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to articulate complex technical and legal concepts.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Must be barred in the state of practice.

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field such as Mathematics or Physics is required.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the USPTO is required.
  • Barred in the state of practice.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Expertise in patent law and intellectual property protection strategies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with clients and team members effectively.
  • Experience with other forms of intellectual property law is a plus.
