Job Title: Corporate Real Estate, Assistant Solicitor
Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Corporate Real Estate, Assistant Solicitor within the Department of Law in Baltimore City involve handling a variety of legal matters related to real estate transactions and compliance. Key duties include:
- Monitoring legal risks in real estate documentation and advising clients accordingly.
- Interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations applicable to real estate transactions.
- Drafting and negotiating terms for real estate transactions.
- Preparing routine leases, titles, and amendments.
- Ensuring that appropriate approvals are in place before executing real estate transactions.
- Representing the City in the purchase and sale of properties.
- Defending municipal code litigation.
- Providing legal and general advisory services associated with a large-scale real estate portfolio on behalf of the City.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a law degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to the Bar of the State of Maryland. While a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in transactional law or real estate law is preferred, candidates should also demonstrate:
- Strong experience in real estate law and industry knowledge, including litigation, lease transactions, property management, and purchase and sale transactions.
- Solid experience in title insurance underwriting, curative processes, and claims handling.
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex matters.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with colleagues and external parties.
- The ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks.
- Professionalism under pressure and strong ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with the public and various agencies.
- Proficiency in technology, including electronic discovery, Microsoft Office, and legal research platforms like Westlaw.
- A willingness to perform with minimal administrative support.
Salary Information:
The position offers an annual salary range of $79, to $127,, with a starting pay of $79, annually.
Additional Information:
Eligible candidates under final consideration must complete a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint authorization successfully. All selected individuals, including current city employees, must complete a mandatory six-month probation period.
