Job Overview

A nationally respected law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with a strong background in engineering and/or computer science to support its growing intellectual property practice. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative technologies across industries such as medical devices, electronics, and software. The ideal candidate will work closely with attorneys and clients to draft and prosecute patent applications and assist in strategic IP portfolio management.

Location

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for . and international jurisdictions

  • Conduct prior art searches, freedom-to-operate assessments, and patent landscape analyses

  • Perform due diligence reviews for M&A and other transactional IP matters

  • Build and manage IP portfolios for a variety of clients and technologies

  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients on IP strategy and technical disclosures

  • Monitor legal and technological developments relevant to assigned matters

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution

  • Prior experience in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

  • Proven communication and collaboration skills with technical and legal teams

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field

  • Preferred areas include mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering

Certifications

  • Registration to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) strongly preferred

Skills

  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills

  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts clearly

  • Familiarity with USPTO practices and global patent procedures

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution tools and research databases

  • Ability to work independently and within collaborative teams
