Job Title: Professional Development Manager
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Director of Professional Development and the Professional Development team to assess training needs, create programs, and implement an attorney core skills curriculum. This includes managing external training vendors and content as well as researching and proposing innovative approaches to attorney training.
- Work alongside department and practice group leaders to identify and address attorney development needs. This involves recommending best practices and resources, supporting the design and implementation of department training curricula, creating or expanding experience benchmarks, and supporting Continuing Legal Education (CLE) accreditation for department and practice group training in collaboration with the CLE Coordinator as needed.
- Provide confidential coaching and advising for associates on career development and strategies for success, working with associates on individual career development and training plans in alignment with their increasing tenure.
- Oversee designated department mentoring programs, facilitate mentor-mentee pairings, and recommend and implement new mentoring approaches, program enhancements, discussion topics, resources, and training.
- Manage attorney feedback and review processes by reading mid-year and annual reviews to assess substantive feedback and provide guidance. This includes tracking attorney strengths and skill gaps to drive professional development follow-up and planning, reinforcing real-time feedback practices, and providing coaching and training on feedback messaging and delivery.
- Collaborate with other Business Services teams, including Business Development, Legal Recruiting, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I), on initiatives for attorney development, advancement, and engagement.
- Monitor external trends and best practices in attorney professional development, including attorney career paths, staffing, mentoring, feedback, and training, and contribute to the development and implementation of best practices at the law firm.
- Contribute to other professional development initiatives and programs as requested or required.
Education and Experience Information:
- A minimum of 5 years of professional development/training experience within the legal industry or a professional services firm is required.
- Applicants should be innovative thinkers and creative problem solvers with excellent interpersonal, team, verbal, and written communication skills. They should work effectively and collaboratively at all levels.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, realign priorities as needed, and drive projects to successful completion are essential.
- A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is required.
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree is preferred, or a Master of Science in Education, Organizational Development, or a related field.
- Willingness and ability to work outside of standard business hours as needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel to other office locations.
Salary Information:
The compensation range for the Professional Development Manager position is $128,000 to $176,000, commensurate with related experience and qualifications. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range represents the law firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
