Job Responsibilities
As a Senior Attorney, your duties may include providing "in-house counsel" advice to program managers, preparing pleadings, planning litigation strategies, drafting legislation, rules, and regulations, analyzing legal opinions, briefs, and other materials, performing legal research and analysis, drafting or reviewing contracts, preparing opinions and memoranda of law, and appearing at administrative tribunals or courts.

Education and Experience Information
The position may be filled at various levels, depending on qualifications:
- Assistant Attorney 1: Requires graduation from law school or eligibility to take the NYS Bar Examination, with a starting salary of $66,951.
- Assistant Attorney 2: Requires admission to the NYS Bar, with a starting salary of $74,193.
- Assistant Attorney 3: Requires one year as Assistant Attorney 2 or admission to the NYS Bar and one year of subsequent professional legal experience, with a starting salary of $82,326.
- Senior Attorney: Requires one year as an Assistant Attorney 3, or admission to the NYS Bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience, with a starting salary of $96,336.

Location pay is applicable for positions filled Downstate and in the Mid-Hudson Region. Candidates may also qualify with one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer in accordance with Section , , or of the Civil Service law.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $66,951 to $121,413 annually. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.

Additional Information
This role is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS), allowing for non-competitive appointments that do not require an examination. Employees hired under this program are expected to have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status within one year of permanent appointment, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then have the same rights and privileges as competitive class employees of New York State. The position offers a work-life balance and a generous benefits package worth 65% of salary, which includes:
