Evening Supervisor: Early Case Assessment Bureau
Job Responsibilities:
The role of Evening Supervisor at the Early Case Assessment Bureau (ECAB) within the organization involves a variety of supervisory and legal duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Training newly hired and promoted Assistant District Attorneys, DAT Writers, and Legal Writers in case processing, interviewing witnesses, case file preparation, and courtroom practices and procedures.
- Supervising the daily operation of ECAB, which encompasses the Complaint Room, DAT Unit, and Arraignment parts to ensure that arrest matters are drafted and arraigned within the required twenty-four (24) hour time period.
- Examining and reviewing legal issues related to arrest matters and making prosecution decisions based on case facts, legal issues, and applicable case law.
- Reviewing accusatory instruments for accuracy, proper charging, and facial sufficiency.
- Addressing legal questions and reviewing cases drafted by the DAT Unit.
- Handling telephone inquiries from the Office of Court Administration (OCA), NYC Police Department, other law enforcement agencies, non-legal city agencies, defense attorneys, and the general public.
- Supervising arraignment parts when necessary, including arraigning press cases and addressing complex matters in court.
- Accessing the ZOLPA system and preparing Chrono reports to monitor the arrest to arraignment time of cases.
- Serving as the liaison with Corporation Counsel for matters involving Adolescent Offenders, Juvenile Offenders, and Juvenile Delinquents in the Complaint Room.
- Working nights (4pm-12am), weekends, and holidays as needed.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Evening Supervisor position must meet the following educational and experience requirements:
- Juris Doctorate degree required.
- Admission to the New State Bar is required.
- US Citizenship and New York State Residency are required.
- A minimum of 4 years of trial experience or equivalent legal experience, with prior management experience preferred.
- At least 18 months of experience in training or lecturing.
- Ability to work and supervise others in a remote setting.
- Excellent people skills and demeanor.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
- Ability to analytically solve issues or problems from inception through conclusion.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Evening Supervisor position is $112, to $188,.
