Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Affirmative Litigation Division is responsible for representing the City in a diverse array of federal and state cases where the City acts as a plaintiff. The primary objectives are to advance essential policy interests, safeguard the City's financial interests, and manage claims arising from City operations. The responsibilities include handling inter-governmental disputes, addressing municipal corruption, managing public health litigation, dealing with products liability, securing insurance coverage, resolving commercial disputes, enforcing tenant protection laws, and conducting civil enforcement of the Administrative Code. Additionally, the role involves managing property damage claims. The Senior Counsel will lead litigation teams, independently manage caseloads, and take initiative in advancing cases towards resolution.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of litigation experience and should be admitted attorneys. The role requires substantial experience in advising clients, negotiating settlements, and litigating in both state and federal courts. Experience as a plaintiff in litigation is preferred. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral advocacy skills. A commitment to public service is essential, and prior government experience is preferred.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $132, to $182,.
Additional Information:
After completing orientation, attorneys have the opportunity to participate in remote work programs. One option allows limited and irregular remote work, while a pilot program permits working from home two set days per week, subject to approval and division needs. Participation in this pilot program requires more than 50% staff coverage daily and is contingent upon not having in-person obligations on remote work days.
